Northfield shopping centre
A bustling shopping centre in one of Birmingham's suburbs is now
fully let, thanks to a trio of new tenants.
The lettings have been agreed at Northfield shopping centre by
Cushman & Wakefield, joint agent for the development with
Edgbaston-based Wright Silverwood.
The three tenants are e Cosway, a subsidiary of Malaysian
conglomerate Cosway; independent café chain Central
Café; and home furnishings and appliances company Perfect
Home.
E Cosway, which only launched its UK activities in March this
year, has taken a 1,700 sq ft unit, its second in Birmingham. The
other is in New Street, in the city centre. E Cosway focuses on
cosmetics and clothing at its 12 UK stores, another of which is at
the Merry Hill Centre, in the Black Country.
A similar sized unit has been taken by Central Café, and
is the company's sixth shop since it began trading five years
ago.
Central Café tends to locate its outlets in smaller
shopping centres, and has other units in Bedford, Kettering and
Warrington.
Coleshill-based Perfect Home has taken two units at the shopping
centre, totalling 2,500 sq ft. Founded in 2006, Perfect Home sells
products and services on the basis of no deposit, weekly or monthly
payments.
The company, whose slogan is 'the affordable way to buy things
for the home', employs more than 400 staff and has 45 UK
stores.
Northfield shopping centre was built in 1967, as the Grosvenor
Centre, and is located at the heart of the village on Bristol Road
South. It is one of very few purpose built shopping centres in
south Birmingham, and as such has a wide catchment area, including
neighbouring Weoley Castle, Bournville, Kings Norton and
Longbridge.
Key tenants at the 165,000 sq ft development include Iceland,
Dorothy Perkins, Wilkinson and WH Smith.
Rob Alston, retail partner at Cushman & Wakefield, said:
"Northfield shopping centre is a very busy day-to-day shopping
centre that meets the needs of the local community.
"The three recent lettings that we have concluded now
effectively means that the centre is fully occupied which is an
excellent achievement in the current economic climate."
Northfield shopping centre is owned by London-based
PropInvest.
