The Flying Horse Walk draws in an artistic tenant

The Flying Horse Walk has attracted a new tenant in the shape of George Thornton Art, in a deal secured by property agent FHP.

The Nottingham shopping arcade has welcomed George, who was previously based in Hockley, in to the 522 sq ft unit immediately adjacent to Vivienne Westwood and Cathy Stephens Designer Jewellery. The gallery exhibits and sells affordable, contemporary, original works by exceptional local talent and international artists.

The gallery is the newest resident to join the shopping mall since it was taken over by the London-based property investment and development group London & County (Nottingham) LLP last month. The company has since reverted it back to its original name of The Flying Horse Walk from The FH Mall.

Simon Blair of London & County says: "I am delighted to welcome George to the mall. We really value independent retailers as we like to think we can offer shoppers something a little bit different to the other centres, and George does just that. We are right in the heart of the city, and we really benefit from the passing trade as people want to explore. I think that as people pass through, they will see the gems we have on offer. It is also great, as George regularly hosts exhibitions and shows, which will really encourage return footfall."

Other occupiers in the arcade include The Cheese Shop, Atomic, Whitewall Gallery, Canopy, Berketex, Ann Harvey, Inspired, Sugacane and independent fashion retailer Frocks & Rocks.

George Thornton, owner of the gallery says: "We were in Hockley before, which is a great place, but not quite right for a gallery. I wanted to be close to the other galleries in the city, including the one under the council house. I was also really keen to be close to Vivienne Westwood, as it is obviously a great draw for shoppers, which will mean a lot of people walking through will come right past my gallery.

"Nottingham has become a retail haven and I wanted to take advantage of that. George Thornton Art is the only gallery which sells works from local artists and also that deals with purely original contemporary works. I think that our uniqueness fits perfectly with the other retailers in The Flying Horse Walk."

Ben Tebbutt, retail partner at FHP said: "It is great to welcome another unique tenant to The Flying Horse Walk. George Thornton Art is just the type of business which will fit well with the already established galleries and retailers such as Vivienne Westwood. George will benefit from passing trade in the arcade and its close vicinity to other galleries. We are keen to show retailers the benefits they will get from this central location too."
