Wolverhampton-based BBP Security will be striving to keep the
city centre safe over the festive period.
As part of the city's 'Keep it Safe' campaign the security
specialists will be working in conjunction with the city council,
Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust and the local emergency
services to ensure late night revellers enjoy a safe passage home
around Christmas.
Keep it Safe is funded and led by Wolverhampton City Primary
Care Trust who work in partnership with Wolverhampton City Council,
West Midlands Police and representatives of the pub and club trade
and health and voluntary services to tackle alcohol misuse and its
effects. BBP has been enrolled in the campaign for the third
consecutive year, which begins Saturday 10th December and runs
through to New Years Eve.
BBP director Mark Lloyd said: "The campaign is all in the name.
It's about facilitating a good environment for the people of
Wolverhampton and ensuring they're safe. It's more than a security
job. It's about providing help for people and maintaining the good
name of the city."
Previous campaigns have proved hugely successful in reducing
violent crime and anti social behaviour and have also significantly
reduced the strain on hospital and ambulance staff for alcohol
related incidents.
BBP will provide their services at the campaign's safe haven
situated in the Epic Youth Cafe in Lichfield Street and the Market
Street city centre taxi rank. The firm will manage the queue for
taxis and work generally to ensure a safe environment during the
campaign, which will also see additional police and a trained
medical team on hand. Mark said: "There will be two or three
security personnel on hand throughout, depending on the night. That
will start from 10.30pm with a shift change at 2 or 3am. They will
then be on hand until 4.30/5am in the morning as some of the clubs
open that late now."
All of the security personnel involved in this year's campaign
have had the experience of previous years and impressed the
campaign's organisers with their professionalism. Mark added: "One
of the reasons we use the same people is that the campaign
organisers have been very happy with them. They help provide a safe
environment for people on their way home."
BBP has secured some high profile customers in Wolverhampton,
including Wolverhampton Civic Halls and Wolverhampton Wanderers
Football Club. The firm's three directors boast a combined 50 years
of experience in the fields of event security and static and patrol
services and further afield the firm has supplied security staff to
events such as V Festival, helping to significantly reduce crime at
the event over the last 7 years.
