The Turbine Business Innovation Centre continues to grow and
develop its reputation as the place in Worksop for start-up firms
and growing businesses to locate.
Seven early stage companies have recently moved in to the Oxford
Innovation-managed centre, from various sectors including
recycling, fitness training and structural and civil engineering
services, taking advantage of the quality office and workshop
accommodation available on competitive and flexible terms. There
are now forty companies located at The Turbine and they all have
access to business support facilities that are included in their
letting arrangements.
Proving the centre's success at helping companies expand - with
the knock-on benefits of generating high-quality local jobs for
Worksop - the list of Turbine 'graduate' businesses that have moved
on to their own premises continues to grow.
"It's fantastic to see businesses graduate from The Turbine as
they have grown due to our support, but it's also great to see new
businesses join us," says Paul Mallatratt, Senior Centre Manager.
"We cater for all sectors of business and with our one month
rolling contracts, reduce the obstacle of long leases that a lot of
commercial offices offer. Along with this, organisations are
exposed to a ready-made business community where they can seek
advice and networking opportunities with existing businesses in The
Turbine."
Tenants of The Turbine benefit from the modern and spacious
building with a common reception
Waste 2 Renewable Ltd is one of the new businesses in The
Turbine, and has benefited from not only the risk free office
space, but also from the flexibility to grow.
"When we were looking for commercial premises, location was
important to us, and The Turbine is ideally placed for the road
infrastructure being just be the A1 and M1," says Phil Boaler of
Waste 2 Renewable Ltd. "We also wanted somewhere with flexible
terms where we could grow our business without restrictions, and
with The Turbine having a range of different sized premises
available, it seemed the perfect place."
Another business that has recently moved into The Turbine is
Damms Consulting, a structural and civil engineering company
"Being in the commercial property sector, image was important to
us as a business," says Managing Director Paul Damms. "The Turbine
is a well thought out building, spacious and has the added
advantage of being flexible in room sizes. It ticked all the boxes
for us, and was the only business premises that did."
A flourishing recent customer of The Turbine that graduated this
year to its own dedicated premises is Red Rock On Site Services,
which specialises in recruitment services for the food
manufacturing sector. With sites located across the UK, its office
at The Turbine was Red Rock's central contact point for two years.
Six staff moved into a single office in 2009, and by the time the
company moved on it had taken further offices and grown to thirteen
staff. UK-wide, Red Rock grew from twenty six to fifty eight staff
over the same period.
Craig Buckingham, Red Rock's chief executive, says that it was
the flexibility of the accommodation at The Turbine that was most
attractive. "We were able to rapidly take an additional two offices
as our business needs evolved and we diversified the range of
services we offered our customers."
"When a company takes an office at The Turbine it can be trading
from day one as all the services required are here already. Our
clients don't have to worry about the structure of the building,
business rates or utilities, and we look after their phones and
internet connections 24/7," says Paul Mallatratt
Through Oxford Innovation Services, The Turbine's clients have
access to a wide variety of specialist assistance, including
funding and business angel networks. Oxford Innovation has a proven
track record in delivering specialist business advice to new and
growing companies to help them expand. They manage a network of
twenty business and innovation centres across the country,
providing office and laboratory space for more than five hundred
businesses. There are six centres in the East Midlands region
including The Turbine, the Newark Beacon and the Mansfield
i-centre.
Nottinghamshire County Councillor, Keith Girling, deputy cabinet
member for culture and community, says, "We are delighted that The
Turbine has become an entrepreneurial hub and a real success story
for Worksop. We are committed to supporting the growth of the
companies that are the key drivers of our economy."
