Midlands law firm Challinors and the Birmingham branch of the
Federation of Master Builders (FMB) have between them raised
£10,000 for the Tiny Babies Big Appeal, run by the Birmingham
Women's NHS Foundation Trust Charities.
The fundraising campaign provides vital financial support for
the continued development and support of the new Neonatal Centre
which opened in September 2010 and which cares for over 1000
premature and sick babies a year.
The £7million unit was built to meet the needs of the
growing number of sick and premature babies born across Birmingham,
the West Midlands and the region.
Challinors Midlands fundraising committee has run a packed
programme of events from dress down days, cake sales, raffles and
donations, to staff and lawyers sponsored to run the Birmingham
Half Marathon, to raise £5,000. The FMB Birmingham branch, of
which Challinors' Partner Peter McHugh is President, has matched
the sum from its own fundraising activities, to create the total
£10,000 donation to Tiny Babies.
Peter McHugh and Sarah Corser, an Associate at Challinors and
head of the firm's fundraising committee, visited the Neonatal Unit
to present the £10,000 cheque to its Chief Executive, Ros
Keeton, its Chairman, Elisabeth Buggins and Dr Imogen Morgan,
Clinical Director of the Neonatal Unit.
Elisabeth Buggins explained: "Donations and fundraising are a
vital financial lifeline for the unit in supporting the provision
of state of the art equipment in an excellent environment for our
babies and their parents. We have been extremely lucky and
grateful to receive so much support for the appeal since it was
launched in 2009. The new building will enable us to increase our
capacity for up to fifty neonatal cots, including twenty for
intensive care. It also enables us to care for pre-term babies from
across the region who have had surgery.
"We are so appreciative to everyone at Challinors and FMB
Birmingham for choosing Tiny Babies and working so hard to raise
the £10,000. The funds have been invested in one of our
special care units, named Bumblebee, which provides a vital and
well equipped unit where we can deliver the specialist care the
babies need in an environment developed to provide them with the
best medical support."
Sarah Corser added: "Meeting the staff and some of the babies
and their parents too has been an amazing experience. The work of
the unit and all its staff is incredible. We are delighted that
together Challinors and FMB Birmingham have successfully raised
£10,000."
