Christmas shopping in Lincoln will boast an exotic dimension
this year!
Shoppers in search of something for an alternative present could
find just what they are looking for in Lincoln's newest village
quarter.
The Moroccan Market of Handicraft's Tour, which visited the city
in October was such a success, that it's stay was
extended.
Now another really colourful market - Lincoln's own
Moroccan Village - will be set-up in the St Mark's area and trading
from December 1 to 24.
Lincoln BIG events and promotions manager Michael Armstrong
said: "Earlier this year we were visited by traders, complete with
Berber-style tents, who brought an authentic taste of the sights,
smells and sounds of the Moroccan Souk to St Mark's and they went
down a storm.
"Now they are making a comeback and giving shoppers another
great opportunity to buy authentic woods, jewellery, leather goods,
slippers, pottery, candles and much more.
"There will also be a Moroccan Café, serving traditional
food in tagines."
And people will be able to listen to the sounds of a traditional
Gnawa band while they are browsing and buying.
"The Moroccan Market proved to be a runaway success. Lincoln is
now getting to be known for the sheer variety of markets
which it offers year-round, but this one really fired shoppers'
imaginations and we are thrilled that this African experience will
be returning at the height of the pre-Christmas spending spree,"
added Mr Armstrong.
Shoppers visiting the Moroccan Market on Saturday, December 10
will also get the chance to meet some other special visitors,
because a trio of camels carrying the "three wise men" will be at
St Mark's between 10am and 4pm.
