As the highly anticipated British film about Marilyn Monroe
opened in UK cinemas, one vintage fashion retailer has been cashing
in on the 50's glamour demonstrated so perfectly by this iconic
film.
Sofia Tourlakidou originally from Greece started SoLovesVintage,
an online vintage boutique offering high end vintage clothing and
accessories back in 2009 and the launch of 'My Week With Marilyn'
last week has seen her 50's stock literally flying off the shelves,
especially to those in the Midlands.
Attracting a cult celebrity following and the attention of
leading fashion retailer ASOS, SoLovesVintage has been inundated
with enquiries and sales from women seeking to recreate the 'screen
siren' look which Marilyn was so famous for.
Sofia, whose online boutique stocks clothing and accessories
said: "With well known celebrity vintage lovers including, Kate
Moss, the Olsen sisters and Dita Von Teese, vintage shopping is
becoming less intimidating and more enjoyable for many women."
Nearly four decades after Marilyn's death, the high quality
British film is based on the story of Colin Clark, who worked as a
third assistant director on the 1957 British film comedy 'The
Prince and The Showgirl.' The tragi-comedy, offers an amusing
glimpse into the chaos created when Marilyn turned up at Pinewood
Studios, west of London, during her 1957 stay.
"The launch of this film has been fantastic for our sales and we
have had to source more items to cope with the demand. We have
found that women, especially those in the Midlands are coming
forward for vintage garments in particular. The 50's was full of
glamour, sparkle and sophistication, which is great for the festive
season. We are finding that many women are investing in
vintage garments to take them through the party season and into the
New Year," Sofia said.
