Kitchen is open for business at the Hairy Lemon, Woodgate Valley

The Hairy Lemon pub in Woodgate Valley, Birmingham, is taking advantage of the quality food on its doorstep to offer great value meals following an extensive kitchen refurbishment.

The new kitchen team has already locally-sourced the pork and beef to be served in Sunday lunches, which will be supplied by nearby butchers, Gibson's.

As well as being more eco-friendly, cutting down travel miles, it is also a more cost-effective way of buying fresh ingredients, which is helping the pub to offer fantastic value with their food.

The Sunday lunches, which are served with fresh vegetables, roast potatoes and creamy mash, cost just  £4.50 for adults and £3.50 for children.

Martin Breen, who owns the Hairy Lemon chain, said the new chef spent two weeks supervising the renovation of the kitchen at the stylish pub in Illeybrook Square, which included the installation of a range of new equipment, including griddles, hotplates and blenders.

He is now looking forward to welcoming new and regular customers to try out his dishes for the first time this Christmas.

On the menu will be a great selection of hearty soups and warming winter dishes such as curries, chillies and lasagne, as well as daily specials.

To celebrate the opening of the new kitchen,  the pub has also launched a special festive menu , with a mouth-watering three-course set menu for just £10 per head, including turkey and all the trimmings, or a delicious vegetarian option. Parties of ten who book a meal there will receive a free bottle of bubbly.

Mr Breen explained that the kitchen team has a great deal of experience, with the new chef having worked in the trade for 18 years.

"He'll be making good, homely food for all the family and everything will be made from scratch," he said.

"We've been looking forward to opening the kitchen, and hope to welcome lots of families - we've got everything here for a relaxing meal out."

The Woodgate Valley pub is one of four Hairy Lemon pubs that have been launched in the city this year.

A modern take on a traditional English pub, the Hairy Lemon - which is also located in Priory Queensway, Birmingham city centre, High Street, Erdington, and South Parade, Sutton Coldfield - is planning further expansion next year.
