It may be cold outside but one Shropshire firm decided to bring
a taste of summer sport back to the county.
Dyke Yaxley Chartered Accountants, in Shrewsbury, hosted an
evening of cricket at the Lord Hill Hotel in the town, thanks to
the firm's close links with the Professional Cricketers'
Association.
Local businesses were invited to the gala dinner which featured
two of cricket's most entertaining speakers - ECB selector Geoff
Miller and former cricketer Jeremy Snape.
Keith Winter, for Dyke Yaxley, said: "We couldn't provide
sunshine, the scent of a freshly-cut outfield or the sound of
leather on willow, but we certainly created an evening of
cricketing magic.
"As well as our incredible speakers, we also held a raffle and
auction of cricket memorabilia which raised £650 for our
nominated charity this year, the Down's Syndrome Association.
"We're very grateful to all our guests who gave such amazing
support on the night to our charity cause, and we'd like to thank
our speakers for their inspirational presentations too."
Geoff Miller notched up 34 test matches and 25 one-day
internationals for England between 1976 and 1984. He was elected as
National Selector by the English Cricket Board in January 2008, and
leads a panel which comprises Ashley Giles, Peter Moores and James
Whitaker. He also served on the panel of his predecessor David
Graveney.
Jeremy Snape has combined the experience of being a successful
international cricketer, coach and psychologist to provide
innovative performance ideas for teams and leaders. He is currently
the performance coach of the South African Cricket Team and of
Shane Warne's victorious team in the Indian Premier League.
Also attending on the night was Daryl Mitchell, the Captain of
Worcestershire Cricket Club, whose bat is sponsored by Dyke
Yaxley.
