A Shropshire firm of chartered surveyors' annual charity gala
has raised more than £600 to support disadvantaged children
throughout the region.
Nock Deighton's 'Beaujolais' event at the Coach and Horses in
Shrewsbury saw £625 donated to Wooden Spoon, a charity that
partners with the Rugby Union community across the UK and Ireland
to help youngsters facing social, physical, or mental
disadvantage.
More than 40 guests, including representatives from national
banks, local solicitors, surveyors and estate agents, enjoyed a
meal, prize raffle and charity auction, along with the grand
unveiling of a new Beaujolais wine. The firm's annual gathering
dates back more than 25 years, during which time it has raised
money for a number of worthy causes, including Children in Need,
the Poppy Appeal, Help for Heroes, and the National Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).
"This year's event was one of our most enjoyable and successful
yet, but even more importantly, it managed to raise a significant
sum of money for a very worthy cause," David Perrin, Director of
Nock Deighton, said. "Wooden Spoon does a phenomenal job on behalf
of youngsters that are less fortunate than others, not just here in
Shropshire, but throughout the country, and we'd like to thank all
of our guests for giving so generously."
"The money so kindly donated will make a massive difference to
local children, as all the funds we raise from our events in
Shropshire are spent here within the county," Glyn Dobbs,
Shropshire Regional Committee Chair for Wooden Spoon, commented.
"Huge thanks to everyone at Nock Deighton for hosting such a
positive event and for choosing us as the charitable cause for this
year."
Wooden Spoon was founded in 1983 and aims to harness the spirit,
values, and camaraderie of rugby to give disadvantaged children
across the UK the best chance to achieve their full potential. The
charity brings together 40 regional committees and more than 10,000
volunteers across the country, staging hundreds of fundraising
events a year. It is supported by all four of the home nations'
governing bodies, and counts legends of the game such as former
England captain Bill Beaumont, Wales and British and Irish Lions
international Ryan Jones, and ex-Scotland full-back Gavin Hastings
as official ambassadors, with former Leicester Tigers, England, and
British and Irish Lions full-back Tim Stimpson acting as the
honorary president of its Shropshire branch.
