A cyclist from Sale near Manchester is to pedal 140 miles to
raise money for the charity Age UK this December, and a
Nottinghamshire hotel has made sure they're on hand to provide some
much needed pampering at the end of it!
David Naggs aged 31, a Wilkinson Stock Supervisor, will attempt
to cycle from their Manchester Sale Store on 7th December to their
Head Office in Manton Wood, Nottinghamshire and the Clumber Park
Hotel and Spa has pledged their support by offering a complimentary
overnight stay.
"I do as much as I can for charity and in the past I've hosted
charity nights, completed a 32 mile run and also tackled the 10
kilometre Manchester marathon all in the name of cancer research
and the kidney foundation," explains David.
"Having undergone a transplant a few years ago due to kidney
failure and also suffering from a neurophaphy disease which causes
issues with movements in my feet and legs, when I undertake a
challenge, it's exactly that!" he continues.
"Age UK is a charity Wilkinson has pledged to support over the
next three years and I'm keen to help as much as I can," he
says.
"Almost 1 in 5 of the UK's population are pensioners, which
means there are now more people over the age of 65 than there are
under 16, and so knowing I'll be helping them to remain independent
for as long as they can will be an amazing feeling."
Over the course of two days (December 7th - 8th), David's
charity cycle ride will see him setting off from Manchester,
heading through Gatley to Stockport and taking the long A623 and
A619 to Chesterfield. He'll then be travelling across the M1
through to Bolsover, journeying through Clumber Park and finishing
at Manton Wood.
"Cycling 140 miles to raise money for Age UK is a huge challenge
for anyone to undertake and the fact that David's suffered from the
health problems he's had makes it an even more incredible feat, so
we're absolutely delighted we could get involved in some way," says
Edward Mobbs, the hotel's Sales and Marketing Manager.
"Volunteering to give lodgings for him and his tired legs was
the very least we could do and we're hoping our spa will give him
some much needed rejuvenation for his return journey on 8th
December," he continues.
David may have recently broken his hand severely hampering his
training, but he's absolutely determined to complete the bike
ride.
"The medication I take can make me very tired but I run 2 - 3
times a week, play a lot of sports and also am a bit of a gym
addict, so I'm hoping that'll stand me in good stead for the cycle
challenge," he reveals.
"The support I'm receiving from my partner, the girls who run
our charity department at Head Office and the Clumber Park Hotel
and Spa is also absolutely fantastic - fingers crossed I can make
them all proud!"
