Staff from Willmott Dixon's south Birmingham branch have rolled
up their sleeves and brought a garden at a local sheltered
accommodation for elderly residents back to life.
The green-fingered volunteers were approached by Birmingham City
Council to help reinvent the communal area at Fleetwood House in
the Moseley area of the city.
They worked together to clear the garden of weeds, made an
easily accessible raised flower bed and added a patio section for
the residents.
Willmott Dixon's Customer Community Officer, Melanie Checkley,
who coordinated the project, said, "The garden had not been used
properly for a while and we wanted it to become an area that
residents could enjoy and could take some pride in by growing their
own plants and even attempting to grow vegetables if they
wanted.
"We had a great day at Fleetwood House and all the residents
were so grateful for our hard work which made it all the more
worthwhile."
Andrea Murphy, a senior support officer from Birmingham City
Council, said, "We were so pleased that Willmott Dixon was happy to
lend a hand with the Fleetwood House outdoor project. It is an area
that could be used so much more by the residents and I'd like to
thank the volunteers for helping the garden to reach its full
potential."
