Derbyshire firm Wildgoose Construction is working on a new
medical centre that will serve 6,500 patients.
The Ashover-based company is building the centre in Bradford for
the GPI group, developers who specialise in the delivery of primary
healthcare facilities.
The centre will be a new home for Moorside Surgery, a
partnership of GPs providing medical services to Bradford &
Airedale PCT.
Seven doctors will be based at the centre which will be three
times the size of the existing surgery, providing enough room for
improved car parking and a pharmacy.
Improved patient facilities will include a modern waiting room,
extra services such as physiotherapy, a fully equipped minor
surgery area and a health promotion room.
When built, extra services that could also be provided on site
include more specialised treatment for diabetics, allergy testing,
additional opening times and increased availability of
appointments.
As a teaching practice, the new building, in Dudley Hill Road,
will also house a teaching suite, seminar rooms and a library.
The biggest challenge was to find a suitable site close to the
existing building with the search taking seven years.
Tim Walker, managing director of Wildgoose Construction, said
they were delighted to be working on another project for the GPI
group.
He said: "We are especially pleased to be working with GPI
again. We have a long association with the group and this will be
the 17th medical centre we have constructed for them.
"They are an important client and we have been working with
their innovative architect to realise their design team's vision of
a state-of-the-art medical centre that will provide patients and
staff with superb spacious and modern facilities.
"We have a strong order book and are working on several
developments in the healthcare sector. We are proud to be
recognised as one of the market leaders in this field, by both
clients and professionals involved in the provision of primary
healthcare in the UK."
