Leading regional building society the West Brom has donated £10,000 to Acorns Children's Hospice as the bond with its chosen charity grows.

The Society has pledged a year of fundraising and volunteer practical help for Acorns, which supports life limited and life threatened children and their families through its hospices in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester and services in the community.

Money to date has been raised with the West Brom making donations for each vote cast by members at its AGM and also through sponsored events. Staff have embraced the partnership since it was announced in June, taking part in activities such as the Severn Valley Cycle Challenge and the Acorns Midnight Walk.

Coffee and cake mornings at branches have also boosted funds and awareness. And teams have volunteered their time by carrying out work at Acorns hospices in Walsall and Worcester and putting on a Halloween party for children at Acorns in the Black Country.

Jonathan Westhoff, Chief Executive of the West Brom, said: "We have a strong tradition of supporting communities and raising money for good causes and we are giving whole-hearted support to Acorns Children's Hospice. It is an outstanding charity and I am delighted that our staff people are getting behind the campaign with genuine enthusiasm."

Acorns Chief Executive David Strudley said: "The support of companies like the West Brom is vital to us being able to continue to provide care and support. It's wonderful to see how much they have got behind us so far this year and on behalf of everyone at Acorns, I'd like to say a big thank you."

Acorns relies on voluntary donations for the majority of the £8 million plus needed to run its services. Acorns has three hospices, in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester, which provide respite, emergency and end of life care to life limited and life threatened children and their families. A Community Team also supports families 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with a range of services at home.
