A charity supporting Walsall offenders to help them on the road
to securing a job has received a donation from generous
workers.
Walsall Chaplaincy offers support in the rehabilitation of
ex-offenders in the borough and has received a donation of
£250 from employees of employment and training experts
Pertemps People Development Group (PPDG) based in Bradford
Place.
The donation came from PPDG's payroll giving scheme which
donates thousands of pounds to charities and other good causes
annually.
The money will help purchase a laptop computer and digital
camera to be used by community chaplain David Diaram. Walsall
Chaplaincy was nominated for an award by Vanessa Payne, part of the
PPDG National Offender Management Service (NOMS) team.
She said: "I came across David where he is present within many
of the prisons across the Midlands providing support to the
rehabilitation of offenders from the Walsall borough. Issues
include: drugs, housing, family links, debt etc. and we have been
providing training and employment advice to his clients, both in
and out of custody with the aim to reduce reoffending.
"David is so passionate about the charity and his work, always
going over and above what is required. He sees the positive in
everybody and works tirelessly to make a difference to the lives of
the people he works with."
Mr Diaram said: "Walsall Chaplaincy has been working in
partnership with PPDG since April this year and we receive
fantastic support in helping us achieve our aims.
"This donation will be of significant help in enabling me to
able access information on behalf of the clients more readily.
We'll be able to source employment opportunities much faster as a
result and the more offenders we help find a sustainable job, the
more re-offending rates will fall."
PPDG's total donations to charities and good causes through its
award winning payroll-giving scheme recently broke the
£150,000 barrier. Around two thirds of employees are involved
in payroll deductions that benefit others less fortunate in the
community.
