House-hunters across Shropshire have the chance to snap up their
own piece of history after a former residence of renowned engineer
Thomas Telford hit the local property market.
Estate agent Nock Deighton is inviting offers on the Grade II
Listed Eastcliffe, on East Castle Street in Bridgnorth, a
spectacular three-floor house that Telford is believed to have
lived in whilst designing the town's St Mary Magdalene Church in
the 1790s.
The picturesque property, open to offers in the region of
£650,000, provides breathtaking views across the town and
over the nearby River Severn, and incorporates seven bedrooms -
three en-suite - a farmhouse-style kitchen, an imposing entrance
hall, three cellar rooms, and a 23 ft drawing room on the first
floor.
Michael Nettleton, Director of Nock Deighton, commented: "Thomas
Telford lived in the house during his time as Surveyor of Public
Works in Shropshire in the late 18th century, and it was in this
period when he came up with the innovative design for Bridgnorth's
Parish Church, which is aligned north to south, rather than the
more conventional west to east.
"A fitting home for such a world-famous architect and engineer
as Telford, Eastcliffe combines a practical town centre location
with remarkable views to the rear, where a gravelled courtyard
leads out to a garden and decked sun terrace."
Founded in 1831, Nock Deighton is one of the Midlands' most
well-established and respected firms of estate agents, lettings
agents, chartered surveyors, block management agents, and

property sector by embracing up-to-the-minute technology and
