St. Modwen has submitted plans to develop a multi-million pound,
high quality housing scheme on land off Pye Green Road, Hednesford,
Cannock, which will generate around 1,000 jobs in the construction
of the new houses.
The proposed 142 acre development, which lies to the north of
Cannock Town Centre, is planned to include up to 700 homes, a new
primary school and 75 acres of public open space, play areas and
allotments. At the heart of the development will be a local centre
that will incorporate shops and community facilities.
The traditional-style houses will range from one to five
bedrooms, with a general emphasis on three and four bedroomed
family homes. There will also be affordable housing and large
detached executive homes included in the development.
The one form entry primary school will provide 30 places per
year group, to cater for children of primary school age generated
from the new development.
Highway works will be undertaken to provide new junctions and
improve existing junctions on Pye Green Road and Limepit Lane and a
network of pedestrian crossing facilities and cycle paths will be
created, to help minimise resident's car use.
Mike Timmins, Senior Planning Surveyor at St. Modwen, said the
scheme at Pye Green was an exciting, sustainable neighbourhood
development that promised to breathe new life into Cannock:
"The creation of this major development at Pye Green will bring
social, educational and environmental benefits to Cannock and
address the town's shortage of housing, particularly three and four
bedroomed family homes."
"The scheme will deliver significant levels of inward
investment, including more than 1,000 jobs created by the
construction of the development as well as staff required at the
new school and local centre."
"Our Pye Green scheme has been carefully developed following
extensive public consultation. It will be designed to encourage
walking, cycling and use of public transport, and devotes over half
of the site to open space which will give the scheme a very open
feel, taking advantage of its location and surrounding landscape
setting."
Subject to planning approval being granted early in the New
Year, St. Modwen expects work to begin on site in spring 2013.
