Scape, the local authority controlled company at the forefront
of driving down UK public sector building procurement costs, has
just clinched a top award at the fourth East Midlands Centre for
Constructing the Build Environment (EMCBE) Constructing Excellence
Awards.
Held on 28th October, the evening event celebrated excellence
within the sector across the region and saw a range of finalists
come together to find out who clinched the ten Awards titles for
2011.
Scape won Client of the Year for its role as an organisation
that's shown the greatest drive and determination in achieving
results. In particular, Scape was singled out for its 'best
practice principles' which are applied across its projects and
through its supply chain.
Commenting on Scape's achievement, David Walker MBE, Chief
Executive of EMCBE, said: "Scape has, through working with a
critical mass of main contractors and integrated supply chains, far
exceeded nationally recognised key performance indicators for time,
cost, quality and safety across a range of construction
projects."
Mark Robinson, Chief Executive Officer of Scape, commented:
"Scape is playing an important role in these times of austerity in
helping public bodies across the UK save money in buying in
building services. We're delighted to have received this
award, which is testament to the hard work, dedication and
enthusiasm of our small team and all our partners."
As well as leading the Scape team in helping many local
authorities across the country save money on new build,
refurbishment and retrofit development schemes, Mark is also a
leading public sector representative in Europe on procurement and
local enterprise matters. In recognition of his expertise and
achievement, Mark was also shortlisted as a finalist in the Special
Contribution to the Industry Award.
Scape and many of its industry partners were also shortlisted
for a number of other awards, including;
• Innovation Business Award: Willmott Dixon for Sunesis (a
joint venture between Scape and Willmott Dixon which delivers
standard whole building designs at a fixed cost to reduce waste and
speed up delivery).
• Project of the Year Award: Willmott Dixon Red Lion
Quarter in Spalding, Lincolnshire (a mixed use business and leisure
development)
• Heritage Project of the Year: Ashe Construction for the
Roof Restoration of Market Hall in Derby
The 2011 awards were held at Wittlebury Hall in Northampton.
Historian and broadcaster Dr Jonathan Foyle hosted the event.
Jonathan is the Chief Director of the World Monuments Fund Britain,
the UK arm of a global charity, which has achieved great success in
securing imperiled architectural sites for future generations.
