Players from Walsall FC were on the ball when they officially opened a local building society branch after a major refurbishment.

Goalkeepers Jimmy Walker and David Grof also provided a safe pair of hands to receive a special £12,317 bonus on behalf of the club at the West Brom on Bridge Street in Walsall town centre.

The donation came from the annual proceeds of the Saddlers Super Saver affinity account, the savings account which is only available to supporters of the club. The bonus is paid each year to Walsall FC based on the average balance held in all accounts and will go towards the club's youth development programme.

Keepers Jimmy and David were joined by youth team players Jamie Tank and Dan Cresswell and signed autographs and met Young Saddlers supporters at the revamped branch.

Branch Manager Adele Andrews said: "As a building society with strong community roots we are delighted to support the Saddlers and it was fitting that the players helped to celebrate our relaunch. The Saddlers Super Saver is a great way for fans to save for themselves and back their club.

"I am sure our customers will also appreciate the improvements we have made at the branch. The upgrade has created a stylish, modern look with facilities designed to raise our standard of service."

Roy Whalley, Commercial Director at Walsall FC, said: "We are very grateful for the West Brom's support. The money raised through the Saddlers Super Saver affinity account makes a real difference. It is invested in our youth development programme and makes a major contribution to helping the club develop the Saddlers stars of tomorrow."

The West Brom is the leading regional building society in the Black Country and Birmingham and all of its branches are to be upgraded as part of an extensive modernisation programme announced at the end of last year.

The new look Bridge Street branch has a welcome desk, new counters and more space for customer consultations. There is also a distinctive browser wall and plasma screen to help keep customers informed of new products and services.
