One of Lincoln's most iconic pubs has opened its doors following
a major revamp by new leaseholders the Ever So Sensible group.
The company, which also operates Dogma in the city, has spent
£250,000 overhauling The Horse & Groom at the junction of
Carholme Road and Brayford Way. Work has included a complete
interior refit, a new dining room extension and a landscaped
exterior with the addition of a decking area.
Chris Bulaitis, managing director of the Ever So Sensible group,
says that the changes have been well received:
"We only opened last week, but we've already had some
outstanding feedback about the venue.
"Everybody in Lincoln is aware of the pub as it's in a prime
position, but it has sadly been left to deteriorate over the years.
When we acquired the leasehold, our aim was to bring back some of
the original charm of the building and make it a warm, welcoming
environment to enjoy a drink and some great, locally sourced
food.
"Our first weekend has been an extremely busy one and we look
forward to welcoming more people from the area to The Horse &
Groom in the run up to Christmas.
The Horse & Groom serves a selection of cask ales from small
local breweries, as well as an extensive wine list. The food
offering, devised by the group's executive chef, includes a wide
selection of classic dishes, using ingredients sourced from the
surrounding area. As well as a choice of fixed price lunch and
evening menus, the venue will also have a traditional Sunday lunch
offering.
The opening of The Horse & Groom is part of the Ever So
Sensible group's continuing expansion plans. The group's current
portfolio includes Le Mistral Bistros in Nottinghamshire and
Derbyshire, Dogma in Lincoln and Nottingham, The Castle and Bad
Juju in Nottingham and The Marquis Wellington in Leicester, with a
further two venues to be added by the start of 2012.
