Real Nosh set to win the taste test

A café proprietor says she aims to become "the Jamie Oliver of Redditch" after launching a fresh food outlet aimed at lorry drivers and White Van Man.

Aimee Bennett is confident that Real Nosh will comfortably win the taste test against the more traditional "greasy spoon" brigade.

And commercial property agent John Truslove, who helped fix her up with Unit 14 at Redditch Trade Centre on New Meadow Road, Lakeside, is already sold on her mince and tatties.

"It's the sort of good old-fashioned grub your granny used to cook," he savoured.

"It just proves that fast food can have flavour - Jamie Oliver would be proud of her. This is a venture where literally the proof is in the pudding!"

Aimee - born  and bred in Redditch - likes a bit of banter and gossip with her customers.

She said: "I've always loved customer services in the retail sector - anything to do with people really.

"My first job was a in a butcher's shop aged 13, I used to work in a café in Alcester, I've operated a snack van."

Now aged 33, she is married with children of six and 12.

But her other love is cooking.

"I love cooking and I try to do everything from fresh," she said.

Hence Real Nosh, while keeping the proverbial all day breakfast, will feature home made burgers and cakes, freshly prepared sandwiches and specials like lasagne, stew and curry, all cooked up by Aimee.

She went on: "We are targeting local businesses - eat in or take away. But there is ample parking so we also want to become something of a truck stop while also appealing to White Van Man.

"I looked around and, apart from the centre of Redditch, there was nowhere really where the busy worker could get a good hearty meal.

"Tasty food at a tasty price."

Big all-day breakfasts plus cup of tea and free refill come in around £6; smaller versions £4.50. Specials are also £6 and you can get a bacon sandwich for £2.30.

Opening times are 8am until 2.30pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.

Husband Michael has helped fund the operation which will also create a couple of part-time posts.

"Tell Jamie he's welcome any time he is passing," quipped Aimee.

The 1,061sq ft unit is on a three year lease at £6,995 a year.
