A group of 25 staff at PwC in the Midlands are getting involved
in an innovative youth-focused programme run by youth charity The
Prince's Trust.
PwC's volunteers will be leading elements of The Prince's Trust
Team programme - a 12-week personal development course giving
disadvantaged young people the skills and confidence to find a job
- run with Bournville College in Longbridge. The young people will
also be visiting PwC's Birmingham office.
Specifically, PwC's volunteers will be helping the young people
with CV writing and leading role play sessions on how to give a
good interview. In doing so, the young people will be developing
their employability skills and improving their career prospects.
Last year more than three in four young people helped by The
Prince's Trust moved into work, training or education.
As part of the programme, the young people will also be involved
in individual and team-building projects and benefit from training
in areas like food hygiene, health and safety, job searching,
gardening and landscaping.
Through its collaboration with The Prince's Trust Team
programme, PwC aims to make a significant impact in the community
by focusing on three specific areas: employability skills and
increasing understanding of the business sector, activities to help
raise levels of achievement in education and improving the
environment in the local community and educating young people about
environmental issues.
Fiona Kelsey, Community Affairs leader at PwC in the Midlands
said:
"This 12-week course inspires young people to get involved with
their local community. Along the way, they take responsibility for
their involvement and gain skills that are highly valued by local
employers. Both of these things encourages them to follow their
interests and progress into further training or a career. PwC is
proud to support the Team programme, which provides disadvantaged
young people with the skills and confidence to move into work,
training or education."
The participating young people will give a final presentation
focusing on their experiences of The Prince's Trust Team programme
in front of their peers, friends and families on December 13th at
PwC's Birmingham Office.
