The numbers all added up for Coventry and Solihull accountants Prime when they were runner-up in a national accountancy awards ceremony in London this month.

Placed second, Prime Chartered Accountants was the only Midlands finalist competing for the Accounting WEB 'Practice Excellence Awards' in the medium sized firm category, sponsored by Sage.

Group chairman Laurence Moore said: "This is a very important event in our industry and it is an amazing accolade for us to be runner-up in this award."

Mr Moore attributed a large part of the firm's success to their clients who were asked to comment on how they valued Prime's services and staff.

Prime were also measured in five key areas - mission statement; client care, profitability, retention and referrals; financial performance; growth initiatives; and, finally, process improvements to quality and efficiency.

Judges found that Prime had delivered 'a strong, positive message in looking to use technology to develop new ways to support clients and deliver services that help businesses access information to help them make the right decisions. Investment in business development training and Fame prospecting demonstrates commitment to continued growth.'

The judges also found that the implementation of online accounting was a 'positive innovation', as was the use of Yammer to help staff collaborate from different offices.

Mr Moore said the firm had taken great strides in the way it had run the business and serviced its clients during these challenging times.

He said: "We run the practice as a business. We have significantly expanded our marketing function, developed new services to offer clients - based on advances in technology - and have continually enhanced our own internal systems to maximise client service and to measure performance."

Developments included a new website, a new customer relationship management system and professional marketing collateral produced in-house, with substantial use of cloud technology and hosted systems to differentiate its client service offerings.

Prime Chartered Accountants has a combined staff of 56 and more than 2,500 clients, mainly comprising SMEs and owner-managed companies.
