Birmingham based Construction Company, McDermotts, is looking
for the next generation of industry stars to become part of their
team. This scheme supports the Company's strategy for growth in a
post-recessionary Midlands marketplace.
At a time when it is estimated around a million young people are
facing long term unemployment the Company is looking to develop
young people's talents in the construction industry.
"The current estimate of people under 21 who are deemed to be
unemployable is incredibly high and a tragedy when you consider the
potential that is going to waste," according to McDermott office
manager, Elaine Kirby, who heads up the Company's development
programme.
"As a company we are passionate about offering opportunities to
these young people and we are particularly interested in local
youngsters who would fit in well with the hardworking, ethos of the
business."
The Company also engages in community programmes to help the
homeless by providing work experience and, where appropriate,
employment - helping them re-integrate into society.
"Within the community initiatives, our experience has been
hugely positive and reinforced our belief that all people want is
an opportunity to prove themselves. We have seen on many occasions
people rising to the challenge and making strides forward in their
lives."
McDermotts currently has thirteen young people who are currently
at varying stages of their working lives; either recently completed
their apprenticeship, or gaining experience whilst working, or
attending university part-time, or are graduates who are developing
their skills in the business. In the past year alone six
young people have completed school work placements at
McDermotts.
Marie McDermott, director, concludes:
"These are our future stars; the continued investment by the
Company will be a great benefit to all."
