First residents have been given the keys to their new homes at
the £4.6m Glebe Road and Mount Crescent sustainable housing
development in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Built by Loughborough-based contractor and developer, William
Davis Ltd on the site of 38 post-World War II properties, the first
phase of eight family homes was officially opened by
representatives from project partners Orbit Heart of England and
Mount Pleasant Ward Councillor, Joyce Taylor.
Receiving her key, first resident Catherine Payne said: "We're
looking forward to a new start in our new home. William Davis has
done a lovely job and we cannot wait to move in. We're very
grateful to Orbit Heart of England for giving us this
opportunity."
William Davis is building a total of 57 two, three and four
bedroom properties on the development to achieve a Code for
Sustainable Homes Level 4. The new homes will incorporate a range
of the latest sustainable design features including photovoltaic
roof panels to provide renewable energy, water saving devices, gas
condensing combination boilers, low energy light fittings
throughout and high levels of insulation to reduce carbon
emissions.
Matt Colloby, group business development manager, William Davis
commented: "The completion of this first phase marks the start of a
new era for local residents and serves as an excellent example of
the collaboration between project partners. Work on the remaining
phases is progressing well and we look forward to witnessing how
the development continues to transform the area."
Orbit Heart of England managing director, Stewart Fergusson
added: "We are committed to delivering high quality, affordable and
sustainable housing that meets the need of local people and creates
strong communities. It's great to see the first residents moving in
to their new homes, and we're very much looking forward to
progressing this exciting development over the next twelve
months."
Glebe Road has been part funded by the Homes and Communities
Agency and the remaining phases on this five phase scheme are due
for completion in December 2012. The new homes have been designed
to achieve 'Secured by Design' standards which focus on crime
prevention and will be built to meet 'Lifetime Homes' criteria,
helping to support the changing needs of residents.
