Birmingham residential development Hive has scooped three of the
property industry's top accolades at the UK Property Awards.
The scheme, which was completed in January, was named both Best
Residential Development and Best High-Rise Residential Development
in the West Midlands region, and also took the national title for
Best High-Rise Residential Development in the UK.
The building, which offers a collection of 167 design-led
studio, one and two bedroom apartments, is the second phase of the
£600 million mixed-use Masshouse scheme, located in
Birmingham's burgeoning Eastside area.
Situated within easy reach of key city centre locations
including the Bullring, New Street and Moor Street Stations and the
Colmore Business District, Hive presents an extremely attractive
proposition for both owner-occupiers and investors to buy into one
of Birmingham's key growth areas..
With an extensive programme of development work already underway
and with future projects - such as the terminus for the HS2 high
speed rail line from London falling within the area - Eastside is
undergoing resurgence, with properties in the area becoming
increasingly attractive.
Hive's desirability is further boosted through its extensive
environmental credentials, as it is the first residential building
in the city to draw its power from Birmingham District Energy
Company's (BDEC) ultra-efficient heating and hot water
system.
The connection to the BDEC system - located at nearby Aston
University - provides every apartment with an estimated 30 per cent
saving on hot water and heating bills alongside an estimated 92 per
cent reduction in CO2 emissions.
John Moffat, Development Director at Nikal, the developer behind
the Masshouse scheme, said: "To have won both of the regional
awards is an exceptional achievement, but for Hive to have claimed
the top national prize is a true testament to the outstanding
quality of this building, in terms of finish, location and its
cutting edge environmental features.
"We are extremely proud that it takes less energy to power each
apartment's boiler unit to provide hot water, than to boil a
standard electric kettle. At Hive we are genuinely demonstrating a
fresh approach to delivering homes for the future."
The UK Property Awards celebrate the highest levels of
achievement by companies operating in all sectors of the property
and real estate industry and provide categories for both
residential and commercial developments. Judges take into
consideration a building's architectural and interior design,
marketing, safety, security, energy efficiency and innovation.
Further to its success in the UK Property Awards, Hive has also
been shortlisted in the same category for the International
Property Awards, set to take place at the Savoy hotel in London on
12 December.
