The announcement that 300 jobs will be created at the Nestle
plant in Tutbury further demonstrates Staffordshire's position as a
prime international location for business, the county's economy
leader Ben Adams said.
Nestle UK & Ireland will invest £110 million at
Tutbury to create a world class coffee manufacturing facility. The
extension at the existing Nescafe Dolce Gusto plant will treble
production capacity. The plant already employs 500 people and the
company now plans to double its number of graduates, apprentices
and internships.
Staffordshire County Council's cabinet member for economic
growth and enterprise Ben Adams said: "Each month we are seeing
major economic success stories in Staffordshire which are making
world headlines.
"Today's announcement is another huge boost for the local
economy, but also for the country. Three hundred jobs are going to
make a big difference to our county and to the region and increase
confidence generally. The fact that the Prime Minister was here
today shows what this means. It's also welcome news that the
company will focus on graduate employment, apprenticeships and
internships.
"Staffordshire is now being seen as a prime national and
international location to do business.
"We already have a notable established family of businesses in
Staffordshire which continue to bring in investment. Now other
global names are joining us, notably Jaguar Land Rover and Amazon,
and the county council is proud to be playing a key role in
attracting them here."
Prime Minister David Cameron said: ""This new investment by
Nestlé and the jobs it will create is brilliant news for UK
manufacturing and for the local community.
"This demonstrates what can be achieved by investing in capacity
and people as Nestlé has done consistently over recent
years. The jobs created by this new investment will benefit both
skilled workers and those leaving school who will be able to train
in the workplace to become the skilled workers of the future."
