Two Derby trainers have been chosen to mentor students on the UK's first BTEC Social Media for Business course.

Mark Saxby and Martin Broadhurst from Status Social Media Marketing, which is based in Littleover, will start delivering the part-time 100-hour course in February 2012.

The BTEC is aimed at people wanting to get a job in social media, those in marketing who want to improve their skills, and students who want to make themself more employable.

"Social media marketing is such a significant part of the business world that this course could benefit anyone who wants to pick up new customers and raise awareness of their brand," said Mr Saxby.

Status Social Media Marketing set up in January this year and has already trained more than 500 business people to use networks like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. It also manages the social media for the resort of Cleethorpes, and five international magazines owned by the publishers of the Lancet medical journal.
