Midlands based Dains chartered accountants and business advisers
have helped raise £28,000 for Alzheimer's suffers by taking
part in epic national Olympic-style challenge.
The "Not the Olympics 2012" charity campaign was organised by
the UK200Group of independent chartered accountancy firms, of which
the firm is a member.
Participating member firms were tasked with relaying an
Olympic-style torch across the country in imaginative forms of
transportation, finishing at the Olympic Stadium in London on
Thursday, 10 November.
The torch began its mammoth journey in Perth, Scotland in May
and has criss-crossed the country visiting cities and towns before
arriving at the View Tube in the Olympic Park. ITV's sports
presenter Matt Smith, an ambassador of Alzheimer's Society, took
final receipt of the torch in a special reception event held the
stadium.
The group of charitable accountants walked and cycled the route
dressed in a variety of themed suits including romper suits,
cabaret suits and wet suits. Dains in the Community
representative Mike Castree said: "We're delighted to have played
our part in helping to raise money for such a worthwhile
cause."
Ray Nash, area fundraising manager for the Alzheimer's Society
added: "We would like to thank the UK200Group and all the firms
involved for choosing the Alzheimer's Society to benefit from its
epic challenge. It was an extremely innovative and exciting way to
raise money ahead of the 2012 Olympics."
