Specialist regeneration developer Blueprint lent one of its
Leicester buildings to a music charity to raise money and awareness
for Oxfam.
The warehouse, located on Queen Street, was one of 12 venues in
Leicester's Cultural Quarter for the "Oxjam Leicester Takeover"
festival.
It was used by Sonido, an underground music movement that over
the past two years has built an intimate and dedicated following,
after putting on unconventional parties in the Midlands. In the
past this has ranged from derelict factories and car parks to
rooftops and pubs.
Blueprint's Phoenix Square was also involved and hosted the
festival's youth stage, as well as showing music themed films
throughout the day.
Alec Hamlin, development manager at Blueprint, said: "We were
delighted to get involved in this fundraising opportunity which
embraces local talent. We were glad to be able to provide locations
in which the events could be enjoyed, and we're proud to have
helped to raise money for such a worthy cause."
Oxjam is a nationwide project, which runs throughout October,
organised by volunteers from the local music scene.
Money is still coming in from the Leicester event, but
organisers predict it has raised a five-figure sum.
