the official opening of the new extension to the care home
Work has just been completed on a £1.3m project to extend
and enhance the facilities at Bramble Lodge, a residential care
home in West Hallam, Derbyshire owned by Winland Care Ltd.
A new 2-storey extension has been added which increases the
number of bedrooms at the home from 41 to 65 and a new lift has
been installed. As a result of these improvements the home will,
for the first time, be able to offer a dedicated room for respite
and short-term care.
Other improvements include an extension to the communal dining
room to create a spacious eating area; a new lounge and kitchen
have been created by converting existing spaces so residents can
prepare drinks and snacks to share with their guests. A treatment
room has also been refurbished to accommodate a new hair salon.
The work at the home has been undertaken by Herbert Baggaley
Construction, a leading building contractor based in Mansfield who
has also carried out alterations to the drainage system and drive
way. The architects were Watson Batty.
During the project a time capsule containing items relating to
the residential home, the contractor, the architect and the local
area was buried within the new extension for generations of the
future to discover.
"It has been a pleasure to work with Baggaley on this extension;
the enhanced facilities have exceeded our expectations. The extra
communal space and en-suite bedrooms will allow us to cater for
many new residents as well as providing improved facilities for
those already living with us," commented Sue Cumberland, director
of Winland Care Ltd.
Ian Baggaley, managing director of Herbert Baggaley Construction
said: "The work that we have carried out has significantly expanded
the facilities at Bramble Lodge and the residents are already
starting to reap the benefits and enjoy the extra space."
