Nottingham based wireless communication specialist Ramtech
Electronics has completed the installation of 27 Wireless Emergency
Systems (WES) onto the site of a new shopping centre in Leeds,
safeguarding the construction workers on this £350m
development.
Main contractor for Land Securities' Trinity Leeds, the city's
new shopping destination opening in spring 2013, Laing O'Rourke
chose Ramtech for the 6 storey, steel frame building as the WES
system provides a reliable and flexible fire alert system that
protects their employees and allows them to meet Health &
Safety requirements.
After the 2010 launch of WES, a revolutionary new wireless fire
alert system for construction sites, the device has now become an
instrumental part of the health and safety practices for a number
of high profile construction companies and their projects.
The 27 battery powered WES units at the Trinity Leeds
development need no power cables and take minimum installation.
They are linked to a base station in the Laing O'Rourke office
across the road that monitors their activity. Should an alarm be
triggered a 122 decibel siren will sound plus a strobe light. The
wireless nature of the systems means they can be moved around the
site as the project develops.
Andy Hicks, managing director of Ramtech Electronics commented:
"This is a great project for Ramtech to be involved in as it
demonstrates the flexibility of the product on a multi level site.
Laing O'Rourke needed a cost effective system that they could
easily move around the site as the project develops and WES
delivers that. Since we launched the product we are seeing
increasing demand from contractors looking to protect their
employees and meet the increasingly stringent HSE regulations for
fire alert standards on construction sites."
