Falcon Lodge brook
A team of volunteers from Willmott Dixon Partnerships'
Birmingham north branch have helped to clear an overgrown brook
near Sutton Coldfield to allow environmental and educational
activities to flourish there.
Local residents are keen to clear the waterway in Falcon Lodge
to enable local schools and community projects to utilise the area
more and benefit from the wildlife that exists there.
The volunteers from Willmott Dixon Partnerships joined others
from Birmingham City Council, Thomas Vale, Glendales and Aston
University Challenge to clear the overgrowth of bushes, dispose of
litter and debris and carry out a general tidy up of the area.
They were given time off work to assist with activities as part
of Willmott Dixon's 'Community Day' initiative, which pledges to
offer support to community groups and organisations which operate
in the area where the company is working.
Shyeene Zaidibere, customer and community officer for Willmott
Dixon said, "Whilst carrying out the project we were approached by
several residents asking what we were doing, when we explained they
were delighted to know that the area was being cleared and brought
back to its natural beauty. We hope that the brook can once again
be used to its full potential by the local schools who often took
the local children to the brook to work on nature or environment
projects."
Margaret Scrivens, tenant participation officer for Birmingham
City Council, said, "Working with local residents, we are hoping to
develop the area into a place where young and old can come to the
brook and enjoy nature and the benefits of such an area. The help
we have received from Willmott Dixon has started us on that
journey."
