The commercial team at Warwickshire County Cricket Club was one
of the star players at the recent England & Wales Cricket Board
(ECB) Business of Cricket Awards, after taking the honours for the
Best Integrated International Marketing Campaign and Best Use of
Digital Media.
The club was awarded Best Integrated International Marketing
Campaign for its marketing communications strategy that helped
attract more than 93,000 spectators to the new redeveloped
Edgbaston Stadium for the third npower Test Match between England
and India in August.
The Best Use of Digital Media Award came after Warwickshire
became the first cricket venue to launch an iPhone app ahead of the
Test Match, where cricket fans could buy tickets and get easy
access to club and match news. The club also launched a new digital
magazine - called The e Mag - which was issued to more than 27,000
ticket buyers. Both were designed to provide real-time information
and enhance the customer match day experience.
James McLaughlin, Commercial Director at Warwickshire CCC, said:
"Every Test Match at Edgbaston is a great occasion for the club,
but this year's was of even greater importance as we launched the
new £32 million Pavilion Stand. Our marketing communications
strategy was therefore paramount to securing such great attendances
across the four days.
"Our 'Let Battle Commence' campaign ensured that we could reach
as many people as possible by incorporating a mix of outdoor
branding at major sites across the Midlands, prominence in the
Bullring Shopping Centre, radio partnerships with BRMB, Raj FM and
STAR TV, as well a series of regular PR milestones leading up to
the Test.
"Being honoured for our digital initiatives is also particularly
pleasing to this team. We want Warwickshire to be renowned for
being one of the most proactive sports clubs in the UK, and
products like the app and e Mag ensure that we can give supporters
as many channels as possible to keep updated with club
developments."
Warwickshire is looking to build on this year's success at the
ECB Business of Sport Awards by extending its iPhone app across a
range of other mobile platforms - including Android and Blackberry
- to give more opportunity to interact with fans ahead of its three
international fixtures and its domestic matches at Edgbaston in the
2012 season.
Next season, Edgbaston will host England in all three forms of
the game for the first time in its history, including a Test Match
against the West Indies (Thursday 7 - Monday 11 June), a Natwest
Series One Day International against Australia (Wednesday 4 July)
and a Natwest T20 international against South Africa (Wednesday 12
September).
