Recruitment company worker Kristy Mostyn is backing her
employer's ambitious bid to achieve the most recognised accolade in
the UK for business improvement through people.
Industrial recruitment specialist gap personnel, which has bases
across the Midlands, is going for gold status in the Investors in
People awards - achieved by just 1% of UK organisations.
The Gold award is recognised as an achievement of world-class
best practice. It is regarded as being the mark of a truly
cutting-edge organisation, operating at the very highest levels of
people management practice.
gap personnel employs a wide range of staff development tools
including management training, role models schemes and flexible and
part-time working.
Kristy is fully behind the bid as she says she is an example of
how gap personnel places its employees at the centre of its
organisation.
Finance worker Kristy, who has worked for the company for ten
years, was given part-time hours after having her first baby and
also enjoys a flexible working policy. gap personnel is also
financing an AAT accounting course Kristy is undertaking.
"Before children, I worked as an on site account manager but it
was quite long hours and I knew it wouldn't be conducive to having
a family," explained Kristy, 35.
"After having my baby, I reduced my hours to three days a week
and opted to work in the finance department as I didn't feel I
could carry out my former role on part-time hours. I have since had
a second child and continue to work part-time."
Kristy, mum to Rhys, 6 and Sophie, 3, added: "I'm given time off
if the children are ever ill and am able to work my hours around
sports days and similar events. I enjoy all the benefits afforded
to full time staff and it has fostered a real sense of loyalty in
me. I can't imagine ever wanting to work anywhere else.
"gap personnel doesn't just have these policies in writing, it
puts them into practice which really helps to improve the quality
of life of its staff."
To achieve IIP gold status, companies undergo a rigorous
assessment by Investors in People, and must show exceptional
working practices in areas such as people management; leadership;
staff involvement and empowerment; work/life balance and health and
well being of staff.
Gary Dewhurst, managing director of gap personnel said:
"Employees are at the heart of our organisation as we believe an
effective, happy workforce is crucial to the success of our
company.
"Investing in our staff, their expertise, well-being and
practices, is central to the way we work. By developing our people,
we continue to be leading edge in our field and way ahead of our
competitors.
"We are working hard to achieve gold status and are confident
that we will be successful."
gap personnel is one of the country's fastest-growing
independent recruitment agencies. It is now the UK's eighth largest
industrial labour provider, placing up to 5,000 temporary workers
per week and covering more than 1.5m shifts a year.
The company has recently invested £1.2m in a new IT scheme
to ensure it is fully prepared for the introduction of the new
Agency Workers Regulations which become law this month
(October).
