A woman from Telford who believes you should never give up has
been rewarded with the job of her dreams after being away from the
workplace for nearly thirty years.
Jean Saunders who lives in Malinslee is now putting all her
family skills into practice through her job Birkdale residential
home in Oakengates after getting help from Central Park based
employment and training specialists Pertemps People Development
Group.
"After concentrating on bringing up my family and overcoming
other issues I needed to find a job," said Jean. "It's not the
easiest of tasks currently and I constantly kept hitting a brick
wall.
"But you must keep trying and if you have a never give up
attitude, you will succeed."
With support from employment coach Sue Gaskell, Birkdale offered
Jean a work placement and she made such a hit with the residents,
they insisted she was made permanent.
Another local job seeker 22-year-old Steven Roberts, unemployed
for the past two years, has also been offered a position after a
five week placement.
Birkdale's Emma Burman said the opportunity for potential
employees to undertake a placement was ideal for her organisation.
"We were slightly apprehensive because you do wonder why people
have been out of work for so long," she said, "but this has been
the best solution for us. I think they will both be here for years
to come."
Coach Sue Gaskell explained that there is more to her job than
simply finding vacancies for longer-term job seekers.
She explained: "Jean had no self-confidence when she first came
to us for help but the progress she's made has been nothing short
of phenomenal.
"With the right support and teamwork we prepared Steven and Jean
for the workplace and ultimately into their new roles with
Birkdale."
