Taking the fear out of public speaking

Surprisingly, fear of public speaking is one of the most commonly reported phobias; even topping fear of spiders and heights. In fact, some surveys and research results carried out by mental health institutes show that most people would rather die than stand up and talk in front of a live audience.

Unfortunately, this fear of public speaking, known as Glossophobia, can have seriously negative effects on careers and life successes if sufferers do nothing about it.

However, for anyone who'd rather face a roomful of arachnids than a roomful of people, help is at hand from actor and TV presenter, Des Coleman and speaker coach and media expert, Louise Third who are bringing their vibrant and powerful one-day speaker coaching programme, 'Inspired to Speak', to Antenna, Nottingham on 3rd November.

Des, famous for his film and television roles and winner of the prestigious Royal Television Society Award, will be joining Louise to help give tired and turgid presentations the brush-off and inject a bit of life and colour into the board room, conference hall or Council Chamber.

He said: "We build on each delegate's best attributes, giving them the confidence to speak with surety and also share some ideas from our own experience on the stage and in business. Louise and I have combined our various skills in this programme, from common sense planning to the use of dramatic devices. Our style is relaxed and highly accessible and we aim to get even the most reluctant communicators to their feet."

Louise added: "Des and I are on something of a mission to bring excitement, clarity and passion back to the region's public platforms. Well-known speakers like Barack Obama have reawakened the classic skills of oratory and their impact speaks for itself. This programme is definitely not 'business-as-usual'."

The programme will run between 9am and 4.30pm. A maximum of 12 delegates will work on a presentation of their choice and will also learn how to introduce guest speakers correctly. Coaching costs £195 + vat per person and includes all refreshments and materials.
