A pioneering Nottingham firm has won a prestigious award for its
ground-breaking new products which measure energy usage in
buildings, and improve working conditions for staff.
Seamless Sensing, based at the University of Nottingham's
Innovation Park, has devised a range of ground-breaking
products allowing individual pieces of electrical equipment in
buildings to be monitored for energy usage.
The company's founder and chief executive Dr Edward Mellor
received the Best Product Innovation award at the Innovation
and Sustainability Awards in London.
Dr Mellor said: "This was high praise indeed for our two new
products, which have been really well received in the industry.
We have a range of products which are used in buildings to
measure energy levels. We are finding that our products are
becoming more and more popular as companies look to become more
environmentally friend - and cut energy costs."
Seamless Sensing was applauded for its Current Clamp and Solar
Powered CO² Sensor - which are used with an existing Seamless
Sensing product range.
The Current Clamp measures just 40 mm long and can be installed
in seconds, without interrupting any electrical power; it is simply
clipped on a single core cable to measure energy usage. Immediate
energy values can be seen and used as an alert if too much
electricity is being used.
The Solar Powered CO² Sensor is powered from indoor light.
Installation costs are minimal and it can be mounted anywhere
within a room without being the constraints of electrical power
connections available. It's a "peel and stick" sensor with no
ongoing battery replacement. The CO² gas levels in a room are
a key indicator to the air quality and staff comfort. It can
operate for 17 hours in total darkness and is fully EnOcean
compliant making it easy to integrate into a commercial building's
management system.
The awards ceremony was hosted by Adrian Newton, portfolio
director at industry magazine Safety and Building
Management.
He said: "Seamless Sensing took this award for its products
which the judges felt were really innovative and are already
noticeably improving workplaces."
The Seamless Sensing product range is already in use in
commercial buildings throughout the UK.
