Meet Birmingham, the official business tourism programme for
Birmingham, attended the leading industry showcase Square Meal
Venues & Events in September at London's Old Billingsgate, with
visitors to its stand learning more about the city's growing
conference and events offering.
The 2011 event, which saw Meet Birmingham exhibit for the first
time, enjoyed an increased attendance across its two days,
providing nearly 8,000 visitors with all of the latest information
on the UK's conference venues and the latest trends in the events
market.
Ian Taylor, Commercial Director, Marketing Birmingham, the
city's strategic marketing partnership that operates Meet
Birmingham, said:
"The exhibition gave us and our stand partners venuebirmingham
and Drayton Manor Hotel the chance to showcase the quality, range
and value of the city's conference and events venues to a high
calibre of visitor.
"With 28 hotels at various stages in planning and construction,
multi-million pound transport upgrades and a host of enviable
venues with established reputations, Birmingham is the UK's meeting
place with the whole package for event organisers."
During the two-day exhibition, Meet Birmingham ran a competition
for its stand visitors to win a prize of beautiful handmade
jewellery from the city's historic Jewellery Quarter, a unique area
dating back over 250 years and home to over 400 jewellery
businesses.
Taylor added:
"Our competition prize, designed by James Newman, member of the
British Jewellers' Association, was a real draw and provided a
talking point for visitors to our stand, who were keen to learn
more about Birmingham's heritage and its reputation as an
increasingly dynamic, cosmopolitan and welcoming city."
Birmingham was also represented at the exhibition by Aston Villa
Hospitality and Events, The Belfry, etc. venues, IET Venues and The
Clarendon Suites.
