Leading consultants reveal changes in planning proposed by the Government

The Derby firm of planning consultants behind a proposed £7m development at Pride Park Stadium is organising an event to show how businesses might benefit from planning reform.

Planning Design, based in Vernon Gate, worked for 11 months on proposals before submitting them to the city council on behalf of Derby County Football Club.

The scheme, known as The Plaza@Pride Park, which involved liaising with other professionals, is for a mixed use development of restaurants/cafes, bars, two convenience shops, and offices, plus public open space. It would create hundreds of jobs.

Planning Design has teamed up with Nottingham-based Bancroft Consulting to organise and present seminars at The Quad, Derby, on November 4 to show how proposed changes which have hit the headlines could affect developers and their plans for projects.

Jon Millhouse, director of Planning Design, said: "As the economy falters and growth is desperately needed, the Government is looking to cut red tape by rebalancing the planning system and the provision of transport infrastructure to become more pr-development to boost the economy and jobs."

But the Government's plans have been controversial and met with opposition from various groups. This has led to national debate but also confusion as to what the changes could mean.

"The aim of this event is for speakers to use their wealth of knowledge and experience to clarify the situation by enlightening people on the latest Whitehall thinking and give an insight into the opportunities that the proposed changes present for businesses," said Jon.

The practice's managing director Jonathan Jenkin will lead off talking about the new national planning policy framework, to be followed by Jon on how renewable energy affects planning.

Chris Bancroft, director of the Nottingham-based transport consultants, will talk on highway design guidance. Richard Pigott, senior planner at Planning Design will round off by talking about opportunities for development.

The free session starts at 9am with registration and will finish after midday with questions and answers.

Anyone wishing to attend should contact Planning Design on 01332 347371.
