A recent seminar, updating land and property owners who are
likely to be affected by the proposed HS2 High Speed Rail Link, has
been hailed a great success.
Speakers from Fisher German chartered surveyors, the Country
Land and Business Association (CLA) and Martineau Solicitors
addressed a packed room of delegates at Sulgrave Manor, Banbury on
26th September 2011.
The event, which was chaired by Rupert West of the CLA,
explained the implications of the proposed scheme informing land
and property owners on how to prepare for the future and what
organisations such as the CLA are doing to lobby the HS2
project.
Speaking at the seminar, Fisher German's Stephen Rutledge
advised landowners about what they can do now and in the future to
reduce the likely impact of HS2. This included advice on compulsory
purchase, compensation, the Exceptional Hardship Scheme and
potential economic opportunities.
Stephen highlighted two cases where Fisher German has
successfully helped clients into the Exceptional Hardship Scheme,
enabling them to sell their property where they otherwise may not
have been able to, reiterating the importance of seeking
professional advice.
Tim Broomhead of the CLA, also addressed the audience, updating
them on the CLA's stance and the lobbying which is ongoing on
behalf of its membership. Tim has had regular meetings with HS2 and
drafted the CLA's response to the government consultation.
Iain Johnston, partner at Martineau Solicitors outlined the
Hybrid Bill which will be used by parliament if the scheme goes
ahead and explained the differences between this and the usual
compulsory purchase procedure.
The evening generated a lot of interest and Stephen in
particular was inundated with enquiries following the event.
Following the success of this seminar, Fisher German will be
running more seminars in other regions that are likely to be
affected by the HS2 link.
