A Halesowen man who was out of work for two and a half years and
had applied for literally "hundreds of jobs" has found his ideal
job thanks to help from a local employment and training
specialist.
After more than eight years working for DIY retailer B&Q,
Colley Gate resident Brian Wylde spent the next two years applying
for job after job leaving him frustrated and depressed.
Brian then got assistance with his job search from staff at
Pertemps People Development Group (PPDG) based at Trafalgar House
in Dudley.
"I was with PPDG for six months," explained Mr Wylde. "They gave
me fantastic help with a CV, Maths and English and were all round
so welcoming and helpful."
Brian was keen to learn attending a number of training sessions
as well as devoting time to take a number of Learndirect courses.
Boosted by his new confidence, he identified a potential vacancy
where his employment coach arranged a three-month placement with
compression and injection moulders Cromwell Plastics in Quarry
Bank.
"After being encouraged to identify likely workplaces, PPDG
helped me secure a work placement - without their help I wouldn't
have couldn't got this job," said Brian.
"At the end of the work placement I was offered a full-time job
producing all shapes and sizes of compression mouldings.
"I'm now trained on a variety of machines and really enjoying
it, I'm far happier than before."
The placement, which was originally arranged for four weeks and
then extended to three months suited both parties.
"The work placement worked exceptionally well," said Cromwell
Plastics manager Edith Cornfield. "Without this opportunity we may
never have found such a valuable member of staff.
"Brian was keen to learn, demonstrated his flexible approach and
soon adapted - he's a great asset to the team."
Stephen from PPDG said: "Brian's determination and help from our
experienced employment coaches has enabled him to find a job in
which he can really excel."
