Coventry University's courses, and the guaranteed contact time
students will have with lecturers, has been highlighted as offering
the very best value for money when the new tuition fees come into
force in 2012.
Coventry featured in a national survey undertaken by the Sunday
Telegraph where three courses - for English, Law and Biology - were
looked at and compared at seventeen UK universities.
Not only does Coventry have one of the most affordable rates for
the three courses featured in the survey (£7,500 for English)
but crucially it also offered the most contact time with lecturers
(15 hours). The net effect was that the cost per hour for a
Coventry student in 2012 works out at £15 compared with up to
£50 or more at other universities.
Importantly Coventry can claim that their lecturers also provide
a high quality teaching experience as shown by the recent National
Student Survey where Coventry was top in the Midlands and in the
top 15 in the UK for 'teaching excellence'.
Coventry University's Vice Chancellor, Professor Madeleine
Atkins said:
"We know from our partnership schools and colleges that
prospective students and their parents want a clear rationale for
the tuition fees set.
"Given the increase in fees they face we think it is only right
to describe what students can expect in their academic studies.
This is why we have been explicit about class and tutorial
contact hours we offer and the quality of the teaching that is
given.
"At Coventry, teaching excellence, real assistance to get great
jobs on graduation, and the career-enhancing opportunity to have a
period of study or work experience overseas are all key elements of
our offer."
Coventry University recently jumped up 30 places in the Sunday
Times University Guide for 2012, making it the third best modern
university in the UK.
These latest rankings were also reflected in a strong
performance for Coventry University in the National Student Survey
2011 in which its students voted it the best modern university in
the Midlands. In addition, Coventry was ranked in the top ten by
the Guardian in the summer on its measure of 'adding value' - the
comparison of student grades on entry with the degree results that
were achieved.
Professor Atkins added: "We are delighted to see that the
improvements we have made over the past few years are now beginning
to show in the league tables and in these various other external
studies as well. "
