Covanta Energy, the world's leading Energy-from-Waste (EfW)
provider, has recently appointed Andrew Cardwell as Director
Project Finance.
Andrew's expertise will be of significant importance to Covanta
as the company continues to expand and work towards delivering
projects in the UK and Ireland.
Andrew brings with him 20 years' experience in the financial and
engineering sectors. Prior to joining Covanta, Andrew worked at
public services provider Amey, where he was a senior member of the
Amey PFI management team. Two of his career highlights at Amey
include achieving financial close on the Birmingham Highways PFI
project worth £2.7bn and commercial close on the North
Yorkshire Waste PFI project - a scheme worth £1.0bn.
Commenting on his new role, Andrew said: "I want to help Covanta
win municipal contracts and establish a successful operation in the
UK by ensuring projects are well structured and achieve competitive
funding terms."
Andrew has had a varied career and has been based both in the UK
and in Australia, his native country. He started his career as an
Engineering Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force and spent
several years supporting major military project procurements. His
introduction to UK PFI was in 1999 with space company EADS Astrium
where he was a key contributor to the company's successful bid for
the Ministry of Defence's Skynet 5 secure satellite communications
project. He has also served as a business advisor to government and
as a Managing Director of a food company where he was directly
responsible for negotiating national distribution in Australia's
largest supermarkets.
Andrew's qualifications reflect his career choices in the
finance and engineering sectors. He studied Electrical Engineering
and received an upper-second class degree from the University of
NSW in Canberra. Andrew also holds a first class Bachelor of
Finance & Economics degree from the University of Deakin,
Melbourne.
