A charity concert which was held at the De Montfort Hall earlier
this month (October) has raised an estimated £8,500 for
LOROS, the Leicestershire and Rutland hospice. The musical event
was sponsored by several local businesses, including Leicestershire
estate agency and chartered surveyors Andrew Granger & Co..
The concert, which took place on Saturday 15th October, featured
The Froncysylite Male Voice Choir from the Welsh Valleys, as well
as the City of Leicester Male Voice Choir. Mezzo Soprano Ann
Atkinson also performed for the audience of over 1,000 people.
Compered by the Rt Hon Alan Duncan, MP for Rutland and Melton, the
concert was also attended by Lady Gretton, President of LOROS.
"It was a highly entertaining evening of first class musical
performances, made all the more enjoyable by the knowledge that
money was being raised for such a great cause," comments Andrew
Granger of Andrew Granger & Co.
Based in Glenfield, the LOROS hospice provides medical,
emotional and practical support for patients with terminal
illnesses and their families. In addition to on site care, the
charity also provides services which include care in the home and
treatment at Manor Croft, the palliative day therapy unit. The
charity supports around 2,500 patients across Leicestershire and
Rutland each year and has an annual fundraising target of 4 million
pounds.
"At a time when NHS budgets are being cut, we were delighted to
sponsor such a worthwhile cause and help LOROS in their fundraising
efforts," adds Andrew. "Anyone who has had cause to use the
services provided by LOROS will know what a fantastic job they do
and how invaluable the service is."
