A charity which provides life-saving first responder services to
communities across Lincolnshire has given its backing to an
innovative new online Will-making facility created by
Gainsborough-based law firm Burton & Dyson.
LIVES (Lincolnshire Integrated Voluntary Emergency Services) is
staffed by fully trained volunteers who provide life-saving
emergency care to patients such as cardiac arrest victims in the
vital first few minutes before an ambulance arrives at the
scene.
Because they are based within the communities they serve, LIVES
volunteers are able to respond to a 999 call in four minutes and 15
seconds on average. Figures show that survival rate after a cardiac
arrest is less than five per cent after eight minutes, so having a
LIVES volunteer in the area increases these chances to 35 per
cent.
As a charity, LIVES relies heavily on donations, including those
made through bequests in Wills. The charity has added a link to
Burton & Dyson's new Wills Online service on its website,
encouraging visitors to consider using this method to remember
LIVES in their Wills.
Wills Online provides a straightforward, easy-to-use way for
people to create their own basic Will from the comfort of their own
home, without having to visit Burton & Dyson's offices.
Senior partner Philip Westcott said: "We are pleased to be able
to link up with such a worthy cause in this way. LIVES perform a
valuable service to communities across the county, helping save
lives in those critical first few minutes before an ambulance
arrives.
"By having a link to our Wills Online service on the LIVES
website, we hope that it will not only encourage more people to
think about making a Will, but will also encourage them to make a
donation to this fantastic cause in the process.
"No one knows what tomorrow will bring, so it is important to
have your final wishes recorded in a Will. Equally, no one knows
when they might require the services of a LIVES volunteer, making
it all the more important to help ensure this essential work is
able to continue.
"Of course, Wills Online may not be suitable for those with more
complex circumstances, but in these cases we can still help you
draft a Will which can include provisions for charities such as
LIVES."
