An award winning Market Harborough based music production
company has agreed funding with its banking partners NatWest to
help distribute their film about Creation Records - the music label
that launched Oasis amongst others around the world.
Document Production Ltd is a versatile music production company
that produces films and concerts for both TV and Radio. Led by
Danny O'Connor whose CV includes working for Radio 1 & Channel
4 and Karen Craig who has worked for Ant n Dec's SMTV Live and the
Reading & V Festivals - this year have launched their largest
film production - Upside Down, the definitive story of Creation
Records. Released earlier this year in cinemas and now on DVD and
Blu Ray, the film charts the history of the record label that was
behind some of the largest names in the Brit Pop phenomenon of the
1990s.
Following the successful reception to the film in the UK, which
has recently seen them pick up an award for the film from MOJO
magazine, the company is looking to distribute the film worldwide.
To enable them to take the film to 38 countries around the world,
Document Productions have agreed funding with NatWest under the
government's enterprise finance guarantee scheme.
The £144,000 loan allows the company to purchase the music
rights for the global release and also provides additional working
capital to support the distribution of the movie around the
world.
Speaking about the prospects of taking the movie around the
world, Danny O'Connor, director of Document Productions Ltd said:
"When we had the original idea for making the film we were
attracted by the colourful history of the label and the interesting
individuals that were part of the music that really defined a
generation. We felt it was a compelling story to tell. The reaction
to the film has been good, both from a critical and a commercial
perspective. There is a desire to take the film to a wider
audience, and we believe there is a healthy demand and interest in
hearing about this important period of UK music history. Now we
have the funding in place, we can take forward our plans to
distribute to a global audience."
Gary Spinner, relationship manager, business banking at NatWest
who arranged the loan added: "Document Production have made a
number of successful documentaries for both TV and radio about the
UK music industry. This is their biggest project to date and so to
take advantage of the interest in the film, we have advanced funds
to allow them to maximise the commercial opportunities available to
them."
