Residents and special guests came together at an event to mark
the launch of an extensive makeover at two retirement communities
in Worcester.
Plans were unveiled for a £3m programme of improvement
works at Warmstry Court and Noele Court, both owned and managed by
Sanctuary Housing.
Guests at the event included Supporting People reviewing officer
Allison Ball and Worcester Councillors Allah Ditta, Francis
Lankester, Jabba Riaz and Liz Smith. They were shown the plans at a
presentation by Sanctuary, before taking the chance to enjoy
afternoon tea with residents to discuss the proposals, as well as
older persons' services locally.
The makeovers will initially focus on improvements to shared
facilities, including the residents' lounge and the addition of an
easily-accessible motorised scooter store.
This will be followed by the upgrade of all 62 apartments, which
will benefit from a number of new features including level-access
showers and stylish kitchens.
Noele Court resident Mrs Stella Shermer, aged 80, said: "What's
happening is very good and it will really bring the place up to
date. It's great that we are being kept involved in the
process."
Sanctuary's older persons service manager, Carolyn Hughes, said:
"We are thrilled with the positive reaction to the plans so far.
The aim of this level of investment is to ensure the residents have
facilities which allow them to be independent, irrespective of
their individual situation or need.
"Our residents are at the heart of this project and we working
with them closely. This includes inviting their participation on
the interview panel to appoint a contractor, ensuring residents are
represented at every stage of the improvements and their needs are
met throughout."
The programme of works is due to commence in early 2012.
