Willmott Dixon Partnerships' Birmingham branches have got lucky
and turned 'berry-nice' with their fundraising efforts for their
national charity - helping to raise almost £800 for
Dekamile.
The company's north Birmingham branch created a 'Lucky Number'
board of 300 numbers and raffle tickets were sold to branch staff,
operatives and their client, Birmingham City Council, raising a
total of £97.
Five of their south Birmingham colleagues volunteered to serve
up strawberry cream teas in their Kings Heath based depot and
raised an additional £86 for the charity.
The event was kindly supported by Willmott Dixon's scaffolding
contractors, TDT, who paid for the scones, strawberries and clotted
cream.
Fundraising events took place at Willmott Dixon's branches
across the UK where the company is currently carrying out
work.
Dekamile is a self funding UK charity that helps to provide
clean water and improved infrastructure in Agome-sevah - a remote
village alongside to the river Mono on the border between Togo and
Benin.
The charity has already raised enough money to provide the
village with a supply of clean water, new school roof, pigsties and
beehives. It now aims to refurbish a medical centre and stock it
with much needed medical supplies.
Mel Checkley, Willmott Dixon Partnerships' Customer and
Community Officer for Birmingham South, says; "Willmott Dixon
decided to support Dekamile because every penny raised goes
directly to the village, and the charity's aims in leaving lasting
legacies are very much in line with our own. Everyone really
enjoyed the cream teas and said that they were delicious.
People asked us to make some up so that they could take them
home with them."
Jenny Jones, Willmott Dixon Partnerships' Customer and Community
Officer for Birmingham North, says; "We were hoping to host a BBQ
but with August's unreliable weather we chose to play 'Lucky
Numbers' instead. It just goes to show that something so simple can
have a really positive effect for the charity."
Willmott Dixon Partnerships is currently working with Birmingham
City Council to repair and maintain 60,000 properties in the city.
It's two contracts for the north and south of the city includes the
areas of Edgbaston, Hall Green, Northfield, Selly Oak, Ladywood,
Erdington, Perry Bar and Sutton Coldfield. It aims to reduce the
cost of this service by £47m over the five year terms of the
two contracts.
