Staff at engineering consultants Waldeck are celebrating after being shortlisted for a major national award.

Waldeck is one of five companies to be nominated for the title of Consulting Engineer of the Year in the Builder & Engineer Awards 2011. The awards have attracted a great deal of interest this year with over 30 companies entering the Consulting Engineer category.

The firm will find out if it has won the award at a ceremony in Manchester on Wednesday 5thOctober.

The nomination comes after a busy few months for Waldeck, which now has nine offices across the UK.

The firm provides a range of engineering services, including structural engineering, civil engineering and sustainable design, to sectors such as social and private housing, care homes, education, sport and leisure and retail.

"To be shortlisted for this major award is a real boost for the company and is great recognition for all the effort and hard work the whole team has put in over recent years," said Waldeck Business Development Manager Sue Wright.

"Everyone here is overjoyed about our nomination, which is a testament to the fact that we have managed to grow throughout the recession and at the same time maintain the same high level of quality, commitment and service to our clients."

Now in its eighth year, the Builder & Engineer Awards are established as a major event in the construction industry calendar and the ceremony will attract more than 500 key figures in the industry.

Builder & Engineer is a monthly magazine published for the construction industry by Excel Publishing.

The 2011 Builder & Engineer Awards judges are Derek Bostock, Director-General of the Federation of Master Builders; Colette McKune, Director of Asset Management for City West Housing Trust; Michael Ankers, Chief Executive of the Construction Products Association; and Ruth Reed, President of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

Ruth Reed will be the headline speaker at the awards ceremony, which will take place at The Point, the new conference and events centre at Old Trafford, the home of Lancashire County Cricket Club, in Manchester on 5th October 2011.
